April 30, 2021: Iowa City... I'm Coming Home.

I've had a few people reach out in recent weeks as it was announced that the Iowa City Farmer's Market will return to a closer-to-normal format and welcome back non-food vendors this season. Of course the market is very dear to me. It's where all of this began and was my "home base" for ten years- so I love to get back and be a part of it as often as I can. I'd  mentioned in a couple of responses that I would try to get a market spot for either May 15 or 22 if the opportunity was there, but as my schedule filled out May 15 unfortunately came off of the table. (Following the Beaux Arts Fair I'm going to run back out west to pick up my son and bring him home for a visit. I've been accepted to a couple of shows in Colorado later this summer, and plan to take a few extra days to swing down there and try to get some new material en route... so won't be back yet for the market on the 15th.) However, after talking to market staff I learned that they were looking for vendors to fill some Wednesday afternoon spots and decided to give that a try. You'll see on my schedule that I have three Iowa City Farmer's Market dates listed- Saturday, May 22 bookended by two Wednesdays (the 19th and 26th.) The Wednesday afternoon times are 5-7, and Saturday mornings run from 7:30 to Noon. I still regret that I won't be able to take part in the Iowa Arts Festival this year due to the scheduling change- but am happy for this chance to get back to Iowa City a few more times. (I do plan to add some market dates in the fall as well.) Hope to see some of you there!

February 21, 2021: Scheduling Chaos

Hey folks, just checking in with a quick update. This is normally kind of a quiet time as far as appearances go, but there's a lot happening behind the scenes. January through April is when most festival applications come due for the coming year, and we artists juggle opportunities and set schedules for the months ahead. In wake of our disastrous 2020 and with looming uncertainty as to when we can safely host large gatherings again, things feel a bit more chaotic going into 2021, as nobody is confident of the best approach. Some shows have already cancelled, some have postponed, and some are blazing forward on a wing and a prayer. In a field already heavy on fine lines and vulnerability, most of us are just trying our best to hang on.

At this point I am still proceeding with the hope that by this summer, with additional safeguards (social distancing, masks and other COVID protocol) many art festivals will find a way to resume again. I'm taking a risk in applying for shows (most carry non-refundable jury fees) because, frankly, the one certainty is that I definitely won't get in if I don't apply. With that, I'm trying to be strategic, as always- but rolling the dice and trying to keep options open the best that I can.

I will begin updating my schedule page in April once jury results come in and things become a bit more clear. Thanks for your patience and understanding, and with fingers crossed I'll be back on the circuit in just a few more months.

December 10, 2020: Downtown Iowa City Holiday Pop-Up

I'll be in Iowa City December 14-17 with a Holiday Pop-Up Shop in the Ped Mall. My store hours will be from 11-7 each day, masks will be required and out of respect for everyone's health, safety and comfort, and to allow appropriate social distancing, I'm limiting occupancy within the shop to one party at a time. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we try to navigate current challenges, and while I welcome the opportunity to show my work in person, I would encourage anyone to take advantage of online ordering with free shipping if it is preferable to you. I'm always happy to interact with my clients, but want to make sure everyone stays safe so I can see your familiar smiling faces at the farmers market and local art shows next year!

November 19, 2020: Holiday Thieves' Market Cancelled

And the last one falls... I'm sorry to announce that the Holiday Thieves' Market has officially been forced to cancel due to the COVID-19 surge in Iowa. Once again, this is a huge blow, but necessary. Please stay tuned for information on a virtual art fair featuring Thieves' Market selected artists. Please be safe, please wear a damn mask, and please look out for one another.

November 16, 2020: The Maker's Holiday Market Cancelled

Due to the current COVID crisis in Iowa, we unfortunately must cancel The Maker's Holiday Market, scheduled for Iowa City December 11-13. This was a very difficult decision, but necessary as the health and safety of our community is of top concern. The Maker's is a small group of artist friends, established in 2019 to pool our talents and provide local, handcrafted artisan goods for the Iowa City community. I'll have a blog post up soon with links to members of our group, and we all appreciate any support and if you'd keep us, and all local small business, in mind through these trying times.

November 9, 2020: ICFM Holiday Market Cancelled

Unfortunately due to the escalating COVID situation in Iowa, this weekend’s Holiday Market in Iowa City has to be cancelled. I know it was a difficult decision and it’s hard for us vendors, but it is absolutely the right thing to do. Looking out for the health of our friends, neighbors, ourselves, and the communities that we love does and should always outweigh any economic consideration. Disappointing as it is, I urge all of my friends, customers, and fellow market vendors to appreciate the priorities that have been demonstrated by the Iowa City Farmers Market in this, and throughout the entire season. We’re all doing the best that we can and market staff, as always, has been incredible in giving us their all. There will be a listing of vendor websites and contact information on the ICFM website. Please be sure and support your favorite local artisans and producers this holiday season, and keep up the good fight to get this pandemic under control so we can all be back together at the market next year.

At this time, the Holiday Thieves' Market and The Maker's Holiday Market are still on, but organizers are monitoring the situation closely and will make a decision in the weeks ahead. Public health and safety will be everybody's top concern. You can check my schedule page for updates on upcoming shows.

Love ya, Iowa City. Be safe out there.

November 4, 2020: INHF Magazine

Just found out that one of my photos was chosen for the fall cover of Iowa Natural Heritage, the Iowa Natural Heritage Society's quarterly magazine. I'll post a link on my publications page when available, but INHF members can look for that soon!
