"Iowa City Fireworks" 8x12 Matted Print

Iowa City Fireworks

Fireworks seen over the University of Iowa's Adler Journalism Building on a beautiful Fourth of July evening in Iowa City. Here in the courtyard sits one of the more iconic sculptures on campus, "Iacto" by James Sanborn. A metal cylinder ringed in script of various languages, when illuminated from within it casts code referencing the connection between words and journalism upon surrounding features. The exact meaning of this code is known, but secretive, and locked away in University archives. Another of Sanborn's works carries an even greater air of mystery. The "Kryptos" sculpture, found at CIA Headquarters in Langely, Virginia, reveals four encrypted messages, one of which has never been solved. Referenced on the book cover of Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" it is assumed that only Sanborn understands the true meaning of that particular piece.
